Jerry Creager was born in 1947 and grew up on a small farm in Owen County near Gosport, Indiana. The second of six siblings, Jerry spent much of his childhood farming, church, roaming woods for miles around the farm, and building log cabins along with a lot of fishing and hunting. After high school graduation in 1965, he attended ISU on an industrial arts program. He met his future wife during his sophomore year. A mutual friend arranged the meeting. A year later they were engaged and married in July 1968.
Sharon was born in 1947 and grew up in the rural area surrounding Petersburg, IN, in Pike County. She is an only child, but not spoiled. She was active in church, school, and served as Honored Queen in Job’s Daughters (part of the Masonic organization). Following graduation, she attended Indiana State, graduating in three years with an elementary education degree. Following their marriage, she taught three semesters in Brazil, IN, while Jerry finished his college degree.
Following Jerry’s graduation in January 1970, they moved to Rushville where they retired from teaching in 2004. Many of the chapter members attended their surprised retirement party hosted by their children Ashley and Chris along with their spouses. Retirement is not laid-back. Jerry keeps busy with his woodshop, biking, hunting, fishing, camping, and church and GW activities. Sharon works part-time as church secretary and continues to enjoy quilting, reading, biking, and camping. Ashley’s three children (ages 11, 8, and 5) keep them busy also.
Their first motorcycle (1965, 650cc BMW) was purchased in 1973. This bike was replaced by a 1973, 750cc BMW. Finally they saw the “light” and bought Goldwings:
1983, 1996, 2000 (two bikes), and the present 2004.
They have enjoyed touring from the very first bike. The first trip was to Gatlinburg and the Smokey Mountains (still a favorite). They have toured 45 states (maybe the rest, except Hawaii, during retirement), Canada, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia (several times). Well over 250,000 miles have been traveled together.
Hopefully, they have many more miles of touring ahead.
